NEW GREENS

Construction on the new greens has
begun and we would like for everyone to
come out and view the progress at your
course.  We are excited about the
progress that is going on around us and
we want you to get excited too !  For the
public players we are now offering $20
green fees for play on the temporary
greens.  This is a great time to bring out
those friends and family members you
are trying to get started in golf just to see
what it is like.  At this discounted rate it
is easy to get anyone to come out and
start swinging for very little cost.

Incorporated with the new greens we
have moved all of the tee markers further
back in order to compensate for the loss
in distance on the temporary greens.  Be
sure to watch this closely when you play
during the next few months.  We have
also placed signs on all 18 tee boxes that
tell you how much distance to subtract
from the original greens to the
temporary.  This distance changes on
each hole and is meant to help you figure
distance marker in the fairway.  
Example:  If the temporary green is 43
yards closer than the original green and
your ball is in the fairway next to the 150
pole, you are actually only 107 yards
from the temporary green.

MGA MEETING

The Mens Golf Association (MGA) met
on Thursday, March 4th in the club
house and voted to spend a large portion
of the clubs funds to help with the
purchase of 180 degree sprinkler heads
for the golf course.   These will replace
many of the 360 degree sprinkler heads
currently in use.   This will allow the new
greens to be watered properly, without
over wetting areas on the approach to the
greens.

LADIES GOLF ASSOCIATION

Lately we have seen many ladies express
interest in re-establish the Elm Lake
Ladies Golf Association.  In response, we
are planning to hold a general interest
meeting sometime  in March.  With
adequate participation at the meeting we
will elect officers and officially re-
establish the Ladies Golf Association.  
We ask that you start thinking about
ideas and start spreading the word about
the association re-establishing.

GHIN Handicap System

For those members that are on the GHINN
handicap system we would like to inform
you that the annual service has gone up
slightly to $20.  For those that are members
of the GHIN
system, we encourage you to do so.  Having
a USGA handicap allows you to be more
competitive when golfing with others and is
a great way to "measure" yourself as a golfer.

2010 GULF STATES PASS

The 2010 Gulf States Golf Pass is now
available in the golf shop.  If you do not
already have one of these passes, you really
need to get one ! The golf pass gives you
significant discounts at 72 golf courses across
Mississippi and Louisiana and also gets you a
one-day ticket to the PGA Tour's Viking
Classic, and 4 passes to the Nationwide Tour
Chitimacha Louisiana Open.  If you play golf
outside of the Golden Triangle just one time
this year, you need this book.

SPECIAL THANKS

We would like to give a special thank to to
some members of the Men's Golf Association
and club membership for their hard work on
the golf course in the past few weeks.  Dave
Harrington , Mike Hall, and George Geer have
been fixing up and painting the ball washers on
the course.  They have also been purchasing
materials to build and fix the water coolers and
also adding extras to the golf course.  In the
end we are going to have 3 water coolers on
each nine and another on the driving range tee.
 Please be sure to thank these guys as you see
them around the course.


Schedule of Tournaments and Events

A schedule of tournaments and events for
2010 is now available in the clubhouse and
on this website. All Elm Lake and
Columbus High School events are included
and we will keep this schedule updated as
we beigin to book outside events for the
year.  Sign up forms for Elm Lake
sponsored events will become available as
the relative tournament date(s) arrive.

Adding more Reciprocal Courses

We have been working hard on adding more
reciprocal courses to our membership
agreements and so far have successfully added
MSU Golf Course to our list.  A full list of
reciprocal courses is now available on this
website.  Thus far we have agreements with
Big Oaks and Mississippi State.  Although each
course is unique, all reciprocal agreements
require that a member of the Elm Lake staff
call to make a tee time for you.   We hope that
adding reciprocal courses adds to the value of
your membership and that you represent Elm
Lake proudly when visiting other venues.  
Reciprocal agreements allow you to play for a
reduced fee at the other courses.

MULTI MEDIA ROOM NOW READY

Spread the word.  Elm Lake has two
meeting rooms available.  The main
meeting room is now multi media ready.  
Features include Free Wi-Fi, a 10 ft by 6 ft
pull down projector screen, and an audio
system with auxiliary input for multi media
presentations.  A 1200 lumens computer
projector is also available upon request.  
Ideal for meetings, dinner gatherings, or
multi media presentations.  This room will
seat approximately 50 guests.  A second
meeting room upstairs can seat
approximately 30.  Please pass along the
word to anyone you might know that could
use these meeting rooms.  This room made
possible by the efforts of MGA President
David Barron.

Cooking show on Tuesday, March 16th .  
The date will be Tuesday, March 16th at
5:30 pm hosted by Sonny Miles in the
Elm Lake Clubhouse Banquet Room.
